My name is Mama Hawa Camara I’m a single mother with 4 children I’m a career and support worker working for Manchester City Council. In 2017 I moved from the Netherlands to the Uk when I arrived I had no support from family I couldn’t speak English, and I was in the dark and nobody was there to support me with my housing problem until 1 day I did Beatrice’s son hair and she saw my housing condition and well-being condition when she came to pick up her son.
This was back early 2023, ever since Beatrice had been in my life for lots of situations. My house was in a very bad disrepair condition with dampness, humidity and mushroom were growing in my living room caused by water flooding from top and bottom in the house, our ceiling collapsed on one of my child, and we couldn’t touch the wall, due to electric shock which affected me and my children psychologically and they were put on antibiotics, but still nobody raised it as safeguarding and this situation lasted for almost 3 years before Beatrice intervention. Beatrice and LITD CIC saved my 18 months old child who was badly affected by dampness from birth and he was struggling to breathe when Beatrice took over. I remember like it was yesterday. She imminently contacted other agencies, but she was going circle including no solicitor taking my case due to my language financial barrier. Beatrice contacted the Manchester City council and my previous landlord back and forward and I saw her struggling with my casework., and not just that, she took my 18 months old son to hospital before my son was checked properly and he was admitted antibiotics and diagnosed with severe infections.
Beatrice also contacted my children school and organised meetings with the council, but it was not getting anywhere until she took a video of my baby who was almost dying in my hands and I couldn’t do anything after being taken him to E&A and DP. While the case was ungoing, Beatrice was assisting me and training me how to handle and managed my children who were not coping with the situation and she helped to understand what could happen if I was not coping well enough to care for my children. I couldn’t sleep, eat or even go to work and darkness became my friend.
January 2023 Beatrice set-up a transformer-group in Harpurhey and she setup the group on WhatsApp as well and she invited me to join. This workshop literally changed my live for better. I met many amazing women who were also going through a lot and I made friends. The session started with personal development and self-building capability which helped us to discover our strengths and become resilient.
Beatrice was my Angel a miracle from God and I can never thank her for the opportunities she had given to me. Today I’m giving 1000 thanks towards Beatrice and LITD CIC for saving me and my family . Due to Beatrice intervention, she draws many departments from the City council come out and inspect the property and we get moved as a matter of urgency after couple of days to a better and safer place where we are all settled, my children are in good health and I have recovered from the trauma and now I am back to work and pursuing my higher education in nursing career due to LITD CIC higher education program. I strongly recommend such company to everyone experiencing some challenges similar like mine.
