LITD C.I.C. Showcased Holistic Hair Wrapping at Gorton’s Culture Festival

Manchester, UK – October 2025

On Saturday, 13th September 2025, LITD C.I.C. proudly took part in the Gorton Culture Festival, an annual celebration organised by Gorton Women’s Network. Held at Gorton Park, Hyde Road (M12 5PS), the event brought together families, residents, and organisations from across Greater Manchester for an afternoon of live music, storytelling, sports, workshops, food, and cultural performances.

As part of this vibrant gathering, LITD C.I.C. delivered one of its most popular community workshops: Holistic Hair Wrapping.

Highlighting Tradition and Wellbeing

The workshop introduced participants to unique hair wrapping techniques using silk, satin, and cotton scarves. Beyond style, the practice was presented as holistic, recognising the link between hair health and wider wellbeing — including nutrition, stress management, and sustainable beauty practices.

Attendees explored how hair wrapping is not only a protective and creative practice but also one with cultural depth and therapeutic value. Many participants expressed appreciation for learning about the rich heritage behind hair wrapping, discovering its role as both a healing ritual and a celebration of identity.

A Celebration of Heritage and Healing

For generations, hair wrapping has carried symbolic, social, and cultural meaning across African and global communities. By bringing this tradition to the festival, LITD C.I.C. offered participants a chance to connect with history while gaining practical techniques they could take into their daily lives.

“Hair wrapping is not just about appearance,” the LITD C.I.C. team shared during the session. “It is a practice of wellbeing, empowerment, and connection — linking us to our past while supporting healthier, more sustainable futures.”

Strengthening Community Connections

The Gorton Culture Festival was a resounding success, offering families a chance to celebrate diversity and strengthen community ties. For LITD C.I.C., participation in the event reaffirmed its mission of empowering individuals and families through inclusive cultural engagement, advocacy, and resilience-building initiatives.

We extend our thanks to Gorton Women’s Network, fellow organisations, and all community members who joined us to celebrate culture, heritage, and togetherness.
